Volunteers: Like you, I am watching the path of Hurricane Harvey very closely. The DR leadership of both conventions in Texas have been in contact with state DR directors and also the NAMB DR leadership. They are working with Texas Emergency Management and partners in planning an appropriate response. It is also important to know that this storm will likely effect the state of Louisiana as well. The National Hurricane Center predicts: Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 15 to 25 inches and isolated maximum amounts of 35 inches over the middle and upper Texas coast through next Wednesday. During the same time period Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 7 to 15 inches in far south Texas and the Texas Hill Country eastward through central and southwest Louisiana, with accumulations of up to 7 inches extending into other parts of Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley. Rainfall from Harvey will cause devastating and life-threatening flooding. We have been asked to place the two kitchen units on ALERT. We are asked to make sure they are prepared to respond. Also, we will need to make sure that we have volunteers prepared to staff these units at capacity for at least two weeks from the date of deployment. it is important to know that we have not been asked to deploy, this i just an alert email. We have also been asked to have the recovery units be placed on STANDBY. They do not expect to be able to send equipment and personnel into the affected communities until the Texas Conventions receive permission from the state emergency management leadership. However, we will need our volunteers and units on STAND BY to help those affected with the appropriate response as quickly as conditions and local law enforcement allow. I encourage you to be in prayer for: · The folks that are in the path of this storm. · The SBDR leadership in all of the states that will be affected. · An army of volunteers to stand up to respond and share the love of Jesus. · Our other DR partners as they prepare to deploy
