Hello DR Volunteers!

To register: New volunteers: register here on the bcmd.org event page. Returning volunteers register through their profile on the DR database by clicking here.

Trainings Offered:

Introduction to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief
Required for all new volunteers. This class will give an overview of the work of Disaster Relief and ministry with disaster survivors. We will also cover what to expect on a disaster response, what to bring, etc.

Flood Recovery and Chainsaw Teams

This class will overview the work of the recovery team: flood recovery, chainsaw and temporary repairs with emphasis given to safety. Although this is a physical ministry, many recovery tasks in the field do not require great physical strength.

Laundry Team

The laundry team provides an important support for our volunteers, other responders and community during disaster response. Volunteers will learn procedures for all stages of the laundry process from initial guest contact to returning clean laundry, with an emphasis on safe operation of equipment and spiritual care ministry.

Feeding Team

This class will give an overview of how we prepare, serve and clean up meals served out of our mobile kitchen or church kitchen. Emphasis will be placed on food safety.
Damage Assessment Overview
This session will provide a classroom introduction to how we do damage assessment in the field, evaluating potential jobs in terms of priority, team skills and equipment needed.

While registering, please indicate which classes you would like to take. New volunteers are required to complete two classes in order to receive their badge—one of these must be Introduction to Disaster Relief, even if you watched the online overview video.

If you have any difficulty registering, please contact Demetra Bennett at dbennett@bcmd.org.

There will be more upcoming trainings if you are not able to make it to this one. Please share this information with those that may be interested in serving as a DR volunteer.

Thank you!
